An informal gathering to socialize and reconnect with colleagues on the Sunday night before the conference begins.  Register at the Banff Centre between 5-7pm, then come on down to the Banff Avenue Brewing Company to shake off your travel and meet up with friends.

Movie night is a tradition at ISSW, and this year’s conference is no exception. Come to Wild Bill’s after dinner and watch the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour, brought to you by TAS, our ISSW Title Sponsor! We are excited to offer this glimpse into one of the world’s premier mountain film events.  Titles include special edits of Into the Mind, Valhalla and NotBad and shorts Split of a Second, Dubai - A skiers journey, Sufferfest, Cascada, Poor Man's Heli and Gimp Monkeys.

Whiskey and Words at the Whyte

Named after local artist and mountain lovers Peter and Catherine Whyte, the Whyte Museum opened in 1968 and is the Banff museum for mountain art, culture and history. Join us for presentations from Chic Scott on the mountaineering history of the Canadian Rockies, and Brad White (yes, he is related) on the avalanche history of the Banff area. All this while sippin’ whiskey (cash bar). Whiskey and Words at the Whyte – bound to be a classic. Only 130 tickets available.


ISSW Banquet

Join the ISSW conference delegates as we socialize and celebrate our community with a delicious meal of Alberta beef (thee will be a vegetarian option too), followed by a captivating keynote presentation from Chris Stethem. Chris’s lifetime of work in the avalanche industry spans several generations, many countries and countless snowpacks. This will be one talk not to miss. Only 440 tickets available.


ISSW Volunteer Appreciation Night

Everyone has gone home, the building is empty, and our work is done. It’s been a tremendous amount of work to organize and host the ISSW, so all staff and volunteers are invited to a pizza and beer social event to decompress after the conference is over.
